    DIY : Magnetic Silly Putty

Silly Putty has always been a fun to play with for children. They stretch it, make different shapes from it and mash it back together again. You must have played with the Silly Putty (also known as Thinking Putty) when you were a child but today, we are going to show you how to make a Magnetic Silly Putty yourself.

It is being sold on different websites, but making your own is really fun and enjoyment.
By adding some ferrous component in simple putty can make it magnetic.

    Ingredients and Tools Required:

    • Disposable Gloves
    • Disposable Face Mask
    • Disposable Work Area (a paper sheet)
    • Silly Putty (28 grams)
    • Ferric Iron Oxide Powder
    • Neodymium Magnet
FYI Ferric Iron Oxide is the secret which makes the silly putty magnetic.

    Step 1:

Put on your gloves and face mask. Take the putty out of its container and work with it for some time to make it a bit warm. Then stretch and spread it on to the disposable work sheet.

    Step 2:

Put almost one tablespoon of iron oxide and place it on to the spread putty.

    Step 3:

Carefully fold the putty sheet from edges and mix it. Do it slowly as the powder creates a lot of dust. Keep massaging the putty up to 3 - 4 minutes. It will gradually take the black color.

    Step 4:

That's all you need to do. Just grab a magnet and do the following exciting and wonderful experiments with your magnetic putty:
    • Place it somewhere and take your magnet near to it, it will flow towards the magnet
    • Put the magnet on to the putty and it will swallow the magnet.

There are plenty of such experiments, some of which are shown below in the video.
